When we first started The Proclaimer in 2018, we were told several times over, “Good luck, it’s not going to be easy.”
Man, were they ever right!
But then, nothing worth doing is going to be easy. We launched back then based on impulse without a specific plan, not exactly knowing what we were doing or even where we were going. In our defense, I will say a lot of publications started out this way, from Jann Wenner and Rolling Stone to Larry Flynt and… well, you get the idea. But as we were warned, it wasn’t easy and unfortunately a perfect storm of bad circumstances hit The Proclaimer at the same time which, despite my efforts to save it, caused it to implode.
But as David Lee Roth says in a certain Van Halen song, “Hey. Did you miss us? We’re back!”
The Proclaimer has returned! I’m proud to announce our return to producing news stories again. Taking what we learned from the first incarnation of The Proclaimer, we have re-assembled with a great staff of both experienced and new (but very talented) writers.
I don’t profess to be a journalist or part of the media. Hell, even after 160 episodes of “The Talk of Santa Clarita” podcast, I still just define myself as a guy who likes to talk to people. I just happen to record those conversations. I’m in school, have a family, work full-time and do the podcast on top of it. Most people want to ask me why Radio Free Santa Clarita (and more specifically, me) bothers to publish The Proclaimer.
It’s really simple. Santa Clarita has been very good to me and I believe in giving back in the best way I can. I believe in the mission of The Proclaimer. I believe that the people of the SCV deserve an alternative news source. We don’t (and never will) consider ourselves competitors of The Signal or KHTS. Instead, we see The Proclaimer as simply another option. But an option we are proud to offer you.
I am very excited to introduce Ryan Mancini as our new Editor-in-Chief. Radio Free Santa Clarita, Inc. may be supplying the platform for Ryan and his staff, but it will be his (and their) vision of a news organization which you will see. They have been given a chance to excel.I have no doubt that they will.
