Gov. Gavin Newsom’s State of the State address on March 9 reflected on his actions during the COVID-19 pandemic over the past year. Facing recall, Newsom said:
“So to the California critics out there, who are promoting partisan power grabs with outdated prejudices and rejecting everything that makes California truly great, we say this: we will not be distracted from getting shots in arms and our economy booming again. This is a fight for California’s future.”
Left out of the address was any mention of the Employment Development Department, which has been plagued with problems since lockdowns began last year. State Sen. Scott Wilk (R-Santa Clarita) told The Los Angeles Times that Newsom “has no plan on how to improve EDD.”
