As a parent of a student who has a senior in the William S. Hart Union High School District, I was disgusted when I heard how horrible and disrespectful these anti-vaccine and anti-mask parents behaved.
They call people of color names, heckle them when it is their turn to speak and do whatever they can to try to entice violence, if you can tell by the things they say. These so-called Freedom Fighter parents, and “red shirt” anti-vaccine and anti-mask parents have gone as far as threatening other people who spoke at the Nov. 3 meeting.
These same people are also angry at “Critical Race Theory,” also known as Ethnic Studies. They don’t want their children to know about the truth of the racist history of our country, and how slavery and oppression impacts people of color. They don’t want it taught because instead they are teaching their children the same hatred their ancestors have always had.
This is why it’s so important that people of color, and all races and ethnicities start to attend these meetings and speak up! We must stand up for our children and show our school board we support their decision for vaccine and mask mandates in our schools. I urge every single person who has a child attending a school in the Hart School District, or a niece, nephew, cousin or a friend who is a teacher. Stand up! Speak up!
If I did not know anyone who attended these meetings, I would have no idea this type of thing was going on. Who would know these people are so angry about our school board following mandates to keep our children and educators healthy? And about our children being taught the truth about history?
This “red shirt” angry mob of anti-vaccine, anti-mask, racist people don’t care if our children get COVID-19. They are only full of misinformation and hatred, which is so very sickening to see. They don’t support our board for abiding by federal and state laws to mandate vaccines and wearing masks in schools.
Every child attending these schools have been vaccinated on some level, for measles, mumps and rubella, for example, and yet we don’t all know the minute details on exactly what is in each of those vaccines our children are required to take to attend school. This is a pandemic and if a vaccine is going to help save lives, then it should be mandated and our board should be supported and protected for making this decision.
I pray they will start to remove these angry people who stand up weekly with the same disrespectful rhetoric. If they don’t like it, maybe they should move to a state that has the same beliefs they do.
